Bahá’í Pilgrimage – a personal perspective.

Day 5, Friday:

Although the outside temperature was at least 27º C, we put warm clothes on to go inside the archives building in small groups, since the air conditioning for the preservation of relics makes it very cold. We saw an amazing collection of items which had belonged to Figures of the Faith, original tablets written by them, and pictures of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh. There were so many that the tour took nearly 3 hours and this included only a cursory glance at lots of them! The original tablets have been copied to microfilm and copies sent to 5 different countries for safe keeping.

Since we arrived, the Universal House of Justice had decided that pilgrims are now allowed to walk the lower terraces by themselves, so in the afternoon I walked down from the Shrine of the Báb and counted 502 steps. The tours of the lower terraces for the public start at the 7th terrace, so that pilgrims visiting the Shrines in the afternoon are not disturbed. (During the morning there are public tours of the Shrines.)
