Bahá’í Pilgrimage – a personal perspective.

Day 6, Saturday:

This was our free day. I walked along the top of Mount Carmel, above the 19th terrace, and found two interesting monuments.

There is an obelisk to mark the visit of Wilhelm II on 25th October 1898 to observe the view of the German colony which was established in 1868 to watch for the return of Jesus Christ. By 1898 Bahá'u'lláh had already been to Mount Carmel several times and the Germans had missed Him!

Near it is the cannon used by the Turks against the British army of General Allenby, which captured Haifa on 23rd September 1918 and made ‘Abdu’l-Bahá safe.

Normally pilgrims are able to visit other places in Israel during their free time, but for our stay we were confined to the twin cities of Haifa and Akká.  I went back to my room at the guest house and wrote postcards to send to family and friends in the UK. There was a lovely view of trees from the balcony of my room.
